Copies won't play in computer or DVD player(s)

Help, somebody!!! I have been making DVD back up copies for a long time but now I have run into something I can’t figure out. I use DVD shrink to burn and sometimes I use DVD fab to make a video file before burning with DVD shrink. Lately I Have been using Verbatim DVD+R discs to burn on. I just recently finished a 50-pack spindle with no problem playing them on either the computer or a DVD player(s). Now, when I burn with DVD shrink, it tells me the burn was successful, but when I try to play the movie on the computer the light on the DVD Rom drive blinks as if it will start the movie but then it stops and the movie does not begin. With the stand alone DVD player(s), the disc error message pops up on the TV screen. I thought it may be that I have some bad discs(though I haven’t had that happen with Verbatim), so I went out and purchased a few Maxell DVD-R discs. I am having the same problem with these also. I uninstalled and reinstalled my DVD shrink, my Nero(version 6.6), and also my power DVD program and I still get the same results. I’m not sure what else can be done. Is there some one who is familiar with this and can help ? Thanx in advance.

Try saving Shrink’s output as an ISO and burn it with ImgBurn (free) at a slower speed.

What kinda booktype did you use? What burn speed did you burn at? What kinda burner and firmware are you using? Did you mutitask when burning? We need more info and specs to be more sure what is going on??

#4

Yes what coolcolors said and also did you download or install anything to the computer before you noticed this problem.

#5

I had been downloading some music, as a matter of fact. I don’t multitask when I am burning copies. I use a Toshiba sd-r5372 cd/dvdw and my dvdrom drive is a JLMS XJ-HD166. Like I said before, I use DVDshrink to burn and sometimes I use DVD Fab decrypter to make a video file. Usualy , I just burn ‘on the fly’. When I try to play the copy, Power DVD starts up, there is a pause, and I get an error message - a disc with an unsupported format is in drive E. A couple of times the message didn’t show up, but the movie didn’t either. Any ideas?

#6

can multitasking really disrupt a burn?

#7

Yes it can.

#8

You are so right, Dialysis1! I found that out from past experience. I know that much, I’m really quite new to this. I only use 4x to burn - I’m told that this makes for a better copy. Verbatim is a pretty good disc; i’ve never had any problems with it before. It shows up on the drive when I click ‘my computer’,Shrink kicks it out as a good burn, but when I put in my stand alone or try to play it on the computer…nothing !!! It should start right up with my Power DVD, but it doesn’t. When I open Power DVD first and then insert the disc, I get - a disc with an unsupported format in drive E’. Am I overlooking something?

#9

How about posting your Nero burn log?

DVD Shrink is a transcoding app, it cannot burn anything. What app is doing the actual burning?

#11

I have Nero 6.6. Everything went well previously. I must have done something by mistake to cause such a problem. I have made several back up copies, but I still consider myself quite green to all this…I have DVD Decryptor, DVD fab Decrytor And DVD shrink available for use. Iwas Using fab to make video files and then I would just pick that file while using shrink to make the back up. This is the method that I’ve been using(sometimes I would burn on the fly with shrink - you know, open disc, etc.)
How about posting your Nero burn log?
Not sure how that goes… Help the new kid out will ya?Boy, I get the feeling I’m missing soooooo much!! Bear with me please - if I could do this alone I wouldn’t be here. I am glad all you good people are out here.

#13

In your Nero folder look for a file called NeroHistory.txt. Find the part that refers to your last burn. Copy and paste here.

#14

Sorry for the long delay - been trying to find what you sent me for, but all I can find is a notepad text. will that help you help me?

Unless it say NeroHistory.txt that note pad txt won’t be of much help to us here. Open up that note pad.txt and see if it says or contains the nerohistory.txt. If it does post it for us to see if not then something is a miss there.

Ok you told us part of your hardware but brand of computer or laptop are you using? And what O/S? Burning on the fly is a dangerous thing to do if your not hardware and Mem capable system or not setup for it. I think something is going wrong with “on the fly” burning. Maybe if you burn from the media to HDD and back to the burner at 2.4 or 4x and see if that plays better in your PowerDVD. Sounds like your making bad burns from what PowerDVD is indicating or using bad media. When you burn are you booktyping your media or not? How your using DVDshrink and DVDfab Decrypter puts me at a loss? I would’ve thought you go with DVDfab HD for backing and burning? Give us a rundown on how your doing your “on the fly” burns?

How your using DVDshrink and DVDfab Decrypter puts me at a loss?

The free DVDFab HD Decrypter will only rip to the HD. Many then use FixVTS followed by DVD Shrink to complete the task.

DVDFab HD Decrypter is a simple version of DVDFab Platinum. It copies entire DVD movie to hard disk, and removes all the protections (CSS, RC, RCE, APS, UOPs and Sony ARccOS) while copying.

I already know that part what I am asking is what the OP is trying to do exactly. The question should be for the OP in the future ok.
