ConvertXtoDVD widescreen problem

When I burn a movie to AVI that is in widescreen using ConvertXtoDVD, it plays on my DVD in Full Screen, cutting off sections of the left and right viewing area.

Using the same source material and burning with Nero Vision, I did not have this problem. I’ve had other problems with Nero Vision, so I’d prefer to use ConvertX and find a solution.

ConvertX is burning the movie to widescreen – it plays properly on my computer DVD. However, my DVD player plays it in full screen.

To make it a little more challenging, we are living temporarily in Taiwan and have a Chinese DVD player. I’ve tried every button on the remote and for the life of me could not find a setting that changes to widescreen.

Note that all other widescreen movies (not burned by ConvertX) play fine in widescreen on that DVD player right from the start. So, why does my DVD player not recognize that ConvertX movies are in widescreen when it recognizes other movies?

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Same here… any ideas?

Whoops… here’s my log:

Thanks in advance for the help!

I came across this forum while researching the same issue you have been having. I’m using CovertXtoDVD version 2.1.14.223. What I finally discovered was the tv display settings on my DVD player was set to 4:3 PS. I changed it to 4:3 LB and now it plays my burned discs without the picture appearing to be cropped and stretched, it is widescreen now the way it was burned. I don’t understand why, but that is the solution that worked for me. I hope that this may be of some help to you.

Hey, thanks! This solved it for me. It’s the DVD player setting and not the video converting software, ConvertX, or whatever you use. I went thru the DVD player manual, and the player needed to be changed in the menu from 4:3 pan screen to 4:3 letter box (LB) just like you said. Excellent. Whewww! I’ve been looking for this answer for months. Thanks very much.

I have a similar problem: I transfer a home movie from my Sony MiniDVD to my computer using Windows MovieMaker; I then use ConvertXtoDVD to convert and burn a cd onto DEV+R. The original is on 4:3 and I make sure I convert on 4:3. I play it in my Panasonic DMR-EZ485V DVD Recorder to a Panasonic TH-42PX50U. BUT the subjects appear stretched out to 16:9, hence look fat. My wife goes crazy!! HELP

Are you watching on a 4:3 CRT? I assume not. Set CXD to match your TV-> 16:9. You’ll have side bars which is the only way to maintain AR without cropping. You can do some cropping in CXD which will narrow the Side bars. Experiment under ‘video resize’ for a preview.

Hey, I’m having the exact same problem!! After looking to change my dvd player to 4:3 Letter Box, I found it was already on that setting!!

The movies still look good but they are full screen and not widescreen. So i’m losing some of the picture. I’m burning them with the correct 16:9, D1 and letterbox setting.

After playing around with it, i can only get it to work with a 4:3 setting. But then its not correct on my widescreen computer.

With Nero this never happened, it would play widescreen properly with the full wide picture on my 4:3 tv dvd player & computer.

This sucks… i guess you can’t have a subtitled and widescreen movie!! Nero need to add subtitles and also get their audio sync right.

I tried converting the same movie with ConvertxtoDvd again, but this time I also watched the preview as it was converting, and that preview showed the image in widescreen but squished from above and below still…so the problem for me is in the conversion process. I tried changing the setting from widescreen, to fullscreen, to automatic, but only marginal differences showed up on the previews. The problem seems to be only with this movie, as I’ve burned another one since, and no problem with it. Real Weird!!!
