Converting the soundtrack without stripping the DVD

Is it possible to bump the whole DVD to HD and then convert the soundtrack and save it without messing the DVD up?

I.E. I got a music concert DVD here that uses AC3 for some parts and LPCM for others. Now this bloody LPCM is a killer on space and I would like to convert it AC3 so that the video can look better. I don’t wanna start stripping the guts out of the vobs and re-make it by hand, is there any tool that could do this and leave everything else intact ready for burning?

Barring the above, whats the alternative?

TIA.

Is it possible to bump the whole DVD to HD

you can make an iso with dvddecryptor and mount it on a virtual drive

I know that!

I am in need of some advice as to how to change to soundtrack from LPCM to AC3 whilst not stripping the vobs and rebuilding.

try this…

I don’t think this is possible, sorry.

to damiandimitri: He wants something that will take VOBs with LPCM audio as input, and spit out VOBs with the audio encoded to AC3.

oh

now i get it

never saw something like that.

Only now that dvddecrypter can rip "sound"vobs or ac3 files.
but not the other way around

I only could find this (but it doesn’t make vobs), might help;
http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools?tool=434#comments
and Sonic Foundry Soft Encode can make lpcm to ac3.

But afther that you have to reauthor the movie to fit the audio and movie together again.
