Converted NEC 2100A to NEC 2500A wish to convert to 2510

I Converted NEC 2100A to NEC 2500A using Liggy’s converter download…

Flashed it with 10a_rpc1.bin.

It now currently shows the DVD±RW drive as Nec 2500A ,

I now wish to convert to 2510 .

How do I convert ? Do I just flash the 2510 firmware using Necwinflash.exe over 2500A or do I need to do something with Liggy converter first before I do any flashing ?

I wish to flash with

ND2510 modified firmware 2A5C (RPC1) since I heard it make it
compatible for burner to use different brand of DVD-R and DVD+r media.

Since I converted NEC 2100A to NEC 2500A many of the DVD-R+R
says it an illegal disk when I using Nero to burn.
And many try to burn/write a low maximum speed of 2X.
I hope ND2510 modified firmware 2A5C (RPC1) will solve this problem.

Which file should I download and where ?

Which file should I flash it with ?

20a_orig.bin - NEC ND-2510A stock firmware version 2.0A

20a_fast.bin - 2.0A firmware including riplock patch

20a_rpc1.bin - 2.0A firmware including Riplock and RPC1 patch

20abt_orig.bin - NEC ND-2510A firmware 2.0A including booktype patch

20abt_fast.bin - 2.0A firmware including booktype and riplock patch

20abt_rpc1.bin - 2.0A firmware including booktype, riplock and RPC1 patch

I can use Necwinflash.exe to flash bin file from my Windows XP computer ?

Thanks

Yes it’s that easy

Regarding firmware, I would use either 2.19, 2.0A or MadDog’s 2.FA - you then need to decide yourself which patches you want to have.

Did it and it works. Thanks.

Is NEC ND-2510A 2.FA Firmware not compatible with Memorex 16X DVD-R blanks?

Since I use it with Nero, the log says illegal disc.

I use Staples DVD-R 16X seems to work good.

So with new firmware I can only use dual layer DVD+R DL no mention of DVD-R DL if there is such a format type ?

Mentioned here-

http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/fwinfo/en/2510a/2fa

Just curious about the firmware flashing.
If I wish to convert back to 2500A do I just
flash the dump.bin, the backup I saved for it.

And if I wish to convert 2500A back to 2100A do I
need your converter to convert back to 2100A before I flash it with 2100A firmware. Or can I just 2100 firmware over 2500A firmware and it will work ?
Or do I flash it with the dump.bin I backed the firmware as and I don’t need to use your converter ?

Thanks.

The 2510 is very very outdated, any 16x rated dvd media is too new for that.

Funny thing is that it works for Sony 16X DVD-R but not Memorex 16X DVD-R.

IN Nero log-
Says illegal disk when I do a Nero simulation mode for Memorex, but goes through o.k. with Sony

Maybe need a new firmware which will make it work for Memorex 16 X as well ?

Thanks.

The thing is that getting new firmware will be difficult. Maybe you can figure out the particular disc model used for your current batch of DVD media and “fake” support in the 2510 firmware with MCSE, but I’m not sure if that would actually fix your problem.

How do you “fake” support in the 2510 firmware with MCSE ?

Thanks.

I e-mailed Memorex support.

This is their reply-

Thank you for contacting technical support, although I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing some problems when trying to burn to our media.

Based on the information with which you provided us, if you have the NEC DVD Dual Layer Burner 8x 2510A, that would mean that the unit will have a burning speed of 32x for CD-Rs, of 8x for DVD±Rs, and of 2.4x for DVD+R DLs.

In that case, the only discs that have been tested and proved to be supported by your drive, would be our Memorex DVD±R, that are 2x - 8x, since your drive doesn’t identify the 16x ones.

*For further information, please visit http://support2.imation.com/downloads/imn/Optical/Compatibility/16XDVDDashRCo mpatibility.pdf or find the information from the same site in the screen shot attached to this email.

Regarding the Sony discs that you’ve been able to use, it’s possible that the firmware version that’s in your recorder, includes those MID codes as part of the list. Therefore, those discs will be recognized and the recorder will read and write to them. However, as for Memorex discs, they’d have to have MID: RiTEK F1, or they won’t be identified.

In this case, I’d recommend contacting the drive manufacturer to confirm this information, to verify if there’s a firmware update for your recorder, and to make sure that the discs are supported. Also, if you’d like to verify the MID codes (Manufacturer codes) of the discs, you can find some instructions that can assist you with that, at the end of the email.

Besides that, to confirm that the discs are working fine, I’d suggest trying to burn to them in different recorders and using a different burning software (if possible). If you encounter problems after checking the information above and the discs in different recorders, don’t hesitate on contacting us with your findings and the information of the recorders that you used, in order to further assist you.

So what can I do to be able to make use of Memorex 16X +/- R ?

Thanks.

At the moment, I can only point you to the MCSE thread and ask that you read & search: http://club.myce.com/f86/mediacodespeededit-support-nec-optiarc-dvd-writers-139455/

You will have to know the particular MID of the disc(s) you want to use. You will want to do change the name of a particular strategy in the hopes that it will allow your drive to support your media. If you can’t find out the MID for the various discs you have: maybe post a log from Nero, or post a screenshot of the Nero CD Speed /CD-DVD Speed/DiscSpeed program with a disc inserted & the “Disc Info” tab selected. For example, the MID for the media in the second post of this thread is MCC 03RG20: http://club.myce.com/f91/lg-gh24ns-ls70-320338/#post2579203.

Knowing the MID will allow you to check if the 2510 firmware does support it.

Also: DVD-R DL does exist, but the 2510 is too old to support such format, and any support for DVD+R DL will probably be poor (even with a specific recommended brand).

[post=1605574]This post[/post] might help you on finding supported media codes for the ND-2500A/ND-2510A.

I only see these for ND-2510A Firmware 2.0A and 2.19 firmware-

52 49 54 45 4b 47 30 35 00 00 00 00 52 01 -> [RITEKG05 ] 2.0 4.0 6.0 8.0 52 49 54 45 4b 4d 30 32 00 00 00 00 52 01 -> [RITEKM02 ] 2.0 4.0 52 49 54 45 4b 4d 30 33 00 00 00 00 52 00 -> [RITEKM03 ] 2.0 4.0 52 49 54 45 4b 4d 30 34 00 00 00 00 52 00 -> [RITEKM04 ] 2.0 4.0 52 49 54 45 4b 4d 30 35 00 00 00 00 52 00 -> [RITEKM05 ] 2.0 4.0 52 49 54 45 4b 4d 30 36 00 00 00 00 52 00 -> [RITEKM06 ] 2.0 4.0</pre>

Does that mean it doesn’t have MID: RiTEK F1 ?
Could someone add that on for that firmware so would work for Memorex 16X -Rs, please ? Thanks.

Memorex support says it needs that to be identified.

Why not try strategy swapping yourself?

Any instructions how to do that ?

Thanks.
Why not try strategy swapping yourself?
Read up on MCSE (referred to in a previous post).
Download MCSE.
Download your chosen firmware (in whatever format is required for MCSE).
Open MCSE, then use that to edit the media table (rename a MID to whatever MID you need…you say you need RITEKF1, rename a code to RITEKF1, EXACTLY as it is displayed. You may need to open firmware from a newer drive in case you don’t trust yourself to copy it exactly as it is & copy from there).
Save firmware and flash to drive.
Test.

It’s a slightly daunting task, but not one you should be afraid of.

You may have to do a lot of testing to get a decent burn. Some background knowledge: people usually start with either a similar media from the same manufacturer (maybe RITEKG05? I don’t know how that would fare) or using a known stellar good media (TYG01, TYG02, MCC 02RG20, SONY08D1, etc etc) & rename those to whatever MID needs to be supported. Be aware that should you ever get one of those disc models, to have proper support, you’d have to flash the unedited firmware.

RITEK F1 is not what I would consider to be a particularly high quality MID.
The quality of Memorex media is doubtful more often than not.

Couple both of those together and you’re in for a double whammy.

Add to that mix an old drive which doesn’t natively support that media and its a triple whammy.

IMHO you’ll be far better off buying another drive (they are dirt cheap nowadays) or better quality media which your drive supports, or both.

[I wholeheartedly agree with what cvs said.]

I just use Nero Info Tool to check the Manufacturer ID

Memorex is ID as MBI 01RG40 was the one not supported.

Sony ID was RITEKF1 was supported and working.

I also used DVD indentifier and it displayed this using Memorex DVD blank.-

Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:MBI 01RG40]

Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Moser Baer India Ltd.]
Manufacturer ID : [MBI 01RG40]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]

[ DVD Identifier V5.2.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]

So how do I enter MBI 01RG40 on to

Maddog

NEC ND-2510A 2.FA Firmware

I used 2fa_rpc1.bin to load using MCSE.

How do I add and save that on the list ?

Thanks.

Select a MID in MCSE and…

I see that you have found another thread where someone has the same issue, and you have thus read. You just have to make sure that, if it’s a different revision, you change the existing 01RG40 code to the revision you have.

Thanks to all who helped.

I can now burn at 8X with Memorex -R 16X write speed disks.
I tried using simulation mode in Nero successfully burned an iso image
file. I assume I will be able to burn data disk and DVD video mode at this speed as well ? I’ll try later.

I pasted this as the code, click ok, click set, and saved it-
