Convert movie file types to another

Can someone recommend software that will convert ISO files or ripped VOB files to another common format? There are so many out there that I donâ€™t know where to start.

That depends in part on what format you want to go to. AutoGK is a very good program for converting dvds to xvid avi files for example. Handbrake can convert to mp4, mkv, avi or ogm, and can use x264 or xvid codecs. Both of those are popular programs for conversion and both are free to use. Handbrake is still being developed if that is a concern.

AVIDeMux can also do a lot of conversions. Has a bunch of filters (crop, sharpen, blur, etc.) you can add too.

The first question is how will they be used? Once you know how they will be used, then you can decide on a format.

But the better apps are outlined above.
