By the way, if you need to cut out sections of the video, you can either import the mpeg file created by Vob2Mpg into AviDemux or another editor of your choice, or work straight from the dvd-video files in the Video_TS folder.
If you want to work with the dvd-video files in the Video_TS folder first, you can use DVDShrink in ReAuthor mode and use the Start/End Frame tool. The output will be small dvd-video files, which you can then turn into mpeg files to import to ProShow Producer. DVDShrink is free to use and can be found here: www.mrbass.org
Another possibility is to use VideoReDo Plus or VideReDo TV Suite. You can import the files straight from the dvd, cut the sections you want out and save them as mpeg. All in one program. The only problem is these aren’t free programs. They do have fully functional trials available for download if you would like to try one of them.
So, that should give you a few options on getting mpeg files out of your dvd. Let us know if you need more assistance.
Thanks for all the info. I noticed you didn’t mention Virtual Dub. Should I just delete it. I am always having to delete/move things off of my hard drive to maintain any space. I shoot raw format pictures and my 160 gb hard drive is easily overwhelmed.
Speaking of overwhelmed, I haven’t had a chance to try and decipher what it all means. When someone suggested I try Virtual dub, I got excited and thought I could move forward. I found out pretty quick that people that deal with this video conversion “speak a different language.” Would you recommend with someone that is as obviously ignorant as I am, would be able to figure out how to pull it off? Or do you think I will be chasing my tail for hours like I found myself doing on the Virtual Dub? I am not without a half decent thought process; I am just out of my area of experience.
