Convert DVD 2-channel audio to 5.1 audio?

I received a DVD of my band performing at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last month(!) that contains a 2-channel audio track. It might not even be stereo – DVDShrink identifies it as “2-channel unspecified”, so it could be mono.

I’d like to know whether I can somehow make a copy of this DVD, but the copy would have a 5.1 audio track. I fully realize that it will not be a “true” 5.1 mix. But I’d be happy enough if I could hear the audio coming out of all of my speakers. Any suggestions for accomplishing this? I have Nero 7, AnyDVD, and a few other misc. utilities, and I’m willing to acquire other software if necessary.

Thanks!

The player should allow you to adjust the audio output.

Check out Acoustica’s website. They might have what you need. Generally, what you want to do requires a remix, btw.

I do this all of the time. I demux the movie and use Adobe Audition 2.0 to convert the wav file that I created to AC3 5.1.
