Maybe it's only 1 in 10 because 5 or 7 in 10 already have HDTV sets??? Or is the article trying to say that the expected action would be for -everybody- and their cat to buy a new TV in 2009? What about the ones which already got one already?
Over here (Portugal), almost everybody and their cat already got a HDTV set, it's basically impossible to get CRTs, they're not on sale anymore. And, the few that, with utter difficulty, one can still find, are tucked away at some dusty corner, looking dirty and non-functional.
This, despite the fact that the HD programming is only starting to appear, but still very limited and subscription only. People buy the HDTV sets because it's trendy, looks a lot nicer than their bulky CRTs, etc, not because they want to watch HD programming.
