I received my 1650 yesterday. Noticed the slight burnt smell like many. But it seems to be a non-issue. Plugged it in to an OLD 566 celeron just to try it out. Works fine. Installed the OEM Nero suite that came with it. The old comp only has 128 of memory.
Did not try burning, just reading. When I run a disc quality check with nero, the 1650 starts reading with a normal curve, then suddenly stops for about 5-8 seconds, then resumes speed, stops for about 5-8 seconds. Tried this on 4 discs all with the same result.
I will try it on my dell 3.0 tomorrow. Maybe it's the lack of memory, hard drive speed, etc.. Not sure.
I did not install qsuite. I was checking some older CMC cd-r discs burned on an lg nec and liteon burners and also some 16x verbatims. I'm not sure if it reading well either, as it indicates much higher C2 errors than when I check the discs on my liteons or nec. Maybe it's more sensitive. I don't know enough about this stuff to say. Could be just being more accurate.
Have any of you experienced this ramping up and down of speed and higher c2 errors and MUCH lower reading scores with nero and its disc quality component.
