Connecting PX-712A to a laptop?

It would appear my DVD writer on my laptop is not happy, and I have an old PX-712A DVD-writer sitting right upstairs… - has anyone been successful in hooking one up to a laptop? Is an enclosure required, and must it be Firewire (which I don’t know if I have on this laptop…)? Any other methods…?

Or would it be easier and possibly just as cheap to buy an external DVD-writer?

I assume your DVD burner has USB 2.0. You need a USB 2.0 case for your DVD burner. It should not be very expensive.
It is your choice if you’d like to buy an external DVD burner and you keep your Plextor where it is, or you put it in an external housing.
