Computer won`t play DVD

Im normally able to play dvd movies on my computer. When i insert a "particular movie" it wont play, and after that no other dvd movies will play as i usually do, until i restart my computer, then the other dvd movies will play. It seems as though when inserting that “particular movie” it is changing something on my computer/burner. Any ideas on that?

Could be something that’s auto running when you insert the disc.

Either turn off autorun or hold down the shift key while the disc loads and see if that makes any difference.

Is that particular porn movie of a different region?
Ignore the word porn, it’s probalby not a porn movie.

LOL!

@deezalboy - when you say that “after that no other dvd movies will play as i usually do, until i restart my computer, then the other dvd movies will play” - you mean they won’t play at all, or there’s something amiss about the way they play, such as jerkiness or stuttering?

If it’s the latter, you might want to check that that “particular movie” hasn’t caused the drive to drop into PIO mode (check the “How to enable DMA” link in my sig).

Windows XP? Download and run TweakUI. You can find it at Microsoft.

Could you run a Nero Discinfo and post the screenshot?

Thank You. That particular movie won`t play at all. It seems like when i try to play it, something changes the ability to play other dvd movies, but after restarting my computer all other dvd movies play no trouble at all. There maybe some new technology on some discs that stop playing or even copying.

Assuming you’re running Windows XP, if you want to do this without installing any additional software then right click the drive in Windows Explorer, select Properties, then go to the Autorun tab where you can configure the behaviour for each type of disc.

The TweakUI method is recommended too though as Mr. Belvedere has already suggested.

I went into start>accessories>Windows Explorer but that brings up My Documents. So, i went My Computer>right click drive>properties>click auto play and then the attached shows up. Now what do i do in there i have never been able to understand it.? Ive always found that whatever i change it to, it will go back to music files after. As ive said previously this one disc is a problem and others play. Re Tweak UI i have it installed in Powertoys for Windows XP attached, what do i do in there please?

music files is just the first one on the list, click on arrow and scroll down to Movie and then choose what you want it to do.

Like Play movie with certain program.

Thank You. I did that and attempted to play the dvd movie “Old Dogs” with Windows Media Player and nothing happened, no play. I have googled and i see in some places there is a problem with playing “Old Dogs” and copying.:disagree:

Have you tried the FREE vlc media player, it works great.

It seems this is not a normal dvd. Could you post a screenshot with the contents of this particular dvd?

As i said in post 12, the movie is “Old Dogs”. I cant give you any details as the movie is back at the video hire shop. There is another movie 2012 with the same problem. Theres some info on google about them.

It seems there are some bad dvd’s around.

Another problem seems that they use some sneaky way to protect the movie. The computer drive thinks there are more than 20 different camera angles on the entire movie!. It also seems there are a lot of different versions of these movies going around.

Just before anyone else replies I’d point out that it’s forbidden here to discuss copying of copyrighted material that you don’t own and rentals very definitely fall into that category.

I saw this warning coming.
This is not any instructions for copying materials you don’t own.
Sometimes rental movies just have problems because so many people rent them. A lot of these people don’t take good care of the disc since it isn’t theirs’ . I have gotten rentals that have had jelly kid fingerprints on them. Still sticky. So I have to clean the disc before it goes in my player.
These were not childrens movies so the parents must have used the kid as the “Auto disc changer” .
