THis problem comes up everywhere, yet not many people know how to fix it (Including me) Is there anyone out there that knows more about the mechanics of the laser pickup assembly and how to adjust the laser power, align the laser width, distance, angle, etc.? I have numerous dvd-rw/dvd-rm drives that stop reading/writing CD's due to one of these failures...but they'll continue to work with DVD's... this question is asked everywhere and I've googled the heck out of this topic without much luck. Firmware is up to date, drivers are good, the lens is clean and the track is well-oiled and the laser pickup moves freely. Isn't there an option other than just buying another drive? Companies can repair these types of problems, so isn't there something that the end-user can do, even if it's risky, to avoid paying up the rear for a new drive or to have their existing one repaired? Any help would be great. Thanks alot!
