I was not sure which Forums or Sub-Forum to post this in so here it goes ...
I have searched the internet and googled till my fingers start cramping ... anyway ... I am hoping to get some answers/advice from the Experts here ... folks who mess around with Video stuff a lot ...
I have currently installed Vista Codec Pack (VCP) 5.1.4 and VCP X64 1.7.0 by Shark007 on my laptop that has Vista Home Premium, SP1, 64-Bit.
I kind of like it but also not too crazy about it since it is very Aggressive in it's method of installing it's Codecs on my laptop. What I mean it TAKES OVER and deletes them & or redirects the pointers to it's own folder ... of my already INDIVIDUALLY installed Codecs ... like XviD, FFDShow, and so forth.
The reason that I need those individually installed Codecs to be left alone is because some of my Video Applications LOOK for those Codecs ... where they would have been installed by default if I had installed them individually rather than from a "Codec Package" ... you know in their Own Folder ... so when my applications don't see them in a default folders then they do NOT run. These are like GUI's for XviD, VDub, and so forth.
Q1: What is the Best way to go ... Individually installed Codecs or Codec Packs? If Codec Packs ... which is the BEST for Video and some Audio work?
Q2: If you recommend Individually installed Codecs then ... please give me a list that I would need for all my Video work ... I am into DVD & AVI, MP4, ... etc and also some basic audio stuff?
Thanks for you folks Help & Time,
