Most of those don’t look bad, but I’ve gotten better results with JVC 8x TYs (for some reason the 8x line is better than the 16x). My understanding is that the PIEs affect disc life/longevity and PIFs affect the playability. If you see large PIF spikes, then the disc will likely skip or exhibit other playback problems.

You get PIF when you have enough PIE that can’t be handled by light error correction. (This doesn’t mean a disc where you see a mountain of PIE will necessarily have many PIF.)

PIF are then handled by a second layer of error correction, which on a good disc with an average drive means you have no read issues. (Likewise, a significant amount of PIF in one spot will cause a POF, which cannot be corrected.)

PIE has nothing to do with longevity & cannot indicate such. Scanning, as we have it right now, can only tell you the current state of a disc with a few important metrics.

(Scanning multiple times over time gives you a chance to see how a disc is faring as it ages, but that’s the only way you can guestimate anything about longevity. That said, if a disc is bad from the get-go, any bit of degradation will make the disc that much more difficult to read.)

For those who are still looking for JVC/TY products you can still find some available stock at two on line Greek stores:

  1. Disc Impex Hellas : http://www.discimpex.gr/home-en/
  2. E-Shop.gr : http://www.e-shop.gr/optikoi-diskoi

I Hope this will help some of you! Cheers!

What’s the verdict? To me they look okay but nothing like the TY.

The problem I had was I was shipped these instead of the Taiyo’s I’d ordered with my distributor telling me they were the same thing, which clearly they aren’t. (I sent them back!)

I haven’t had much luck with previous CMC products and I’m loathe to pay through the nose for something that doesn’t have that TY quality. The branding itself even puts me on edge ‘powered by ty’ (I doubt they can print Taiyo Yuden, which worrys me) and every disc is using TY developed technology anyway.

Anything anyone can recommend?

Burner: PX-760AUF #344285
Firmware: 1.07
Media: CMC Pro 16x DVD-R white thermal hub printable (MIT)
MID: TYG03
Stamper Code: GH008127 CMDR470-TYMSM01-127 0320
Hub Serial: MFP348UD17143038 4
Burn Speed: 16x
PowerRec: On
AutoStrategy: Auto (new strategy created)
Burning Software: Opti Drive Control 1.70

Very strange that the 2nd letter in the hub code is “F” (which, to my knowledge, designates a Fujifilm dye) instead of “A” (for Azo dye). Disc was manufactured April 17, 2016. The outer edge looks horrendous

AutoStrategy: Off

This time, I turned AutoStrategy off to see how well these discs match the default TYG03 firmware strategy. Once again there was an issue with the edge of the disc but this time the drive dropped the speed to try and compensate.

Firmware: 1.08
Media: CMC Pro 16x DVD+R white inkjet hub printable (MIT)
MID: YUDEN000 T03
Stamper Code: TH000923 0102
Hub Serial: PFP349UF04075119 3
Burn Speed: 16x
PowerRec: On
AutoStrategy: Auto
Burning Software: Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.7.7.16

Disc manufactured June 4, 2016. Odd that the stamper code indicates this disc uses a Fujifilm dye (Oxonol?) instead of azo-based. I’m fairly certain the drive chose to use the write strategy from AS that was based on a MIJ disc and didn’t match well.

Hub Serial: PFP349UF04075125 1
Burn Speed: 16x
PowerRec: On
AutoStrategy: Auto
Burning Software: Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.7.7.16

Used a different 755 and made sure to clear out the existing AS entry so it would create a new strategy tuned to these discs. The 1650 didn’t like it regardless.
