I’m still living in the BCI-6 era. The cartridges aren’t chipped and they cost me $1.59 each. I just picked up a perfectly working Canon i960 from a Freecycle offer so I have a couple of spare printers in case one dies.

So am I with a iP3000, 2x ip4000 and a iP5000 in the stable. They’re a dream to refill, as you know.
There is a resetter now for CLI-8 / PGI-5BK which makes that range very practical for home refillers.
I just grabbed an ip4500 and a MP610 for future-proofing.

I have been thinking about getting an MP830 to store away for when my MP780 dies eventually. The resetters seem to work well on the CLI-8 cartridges.
