Clean install, but need basic burning software

I just did a clean install of Windows XP after a HDD failure. Unfortunetly, Dell did not send me any burning software. My system originally came with Sonic RecordNow, but I’m wondering if I should go with something else.

I don’t need a full “ultra” suite - just the basic “express” stuff for burning. Many people on this forum seem to like Nero What is the best way to get a copy of that? Is the stuff being sold on ebay OK?

Any advice for a newbie will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

P.S. My system (E510) has a Hitachi LG burner (I think), and I added a Pioneer DVR-111D.

Grab a copy of Ashampoo Burning Studio 6. The program is shareware and relatively inexpensive. It will recognize virtually all drives on the market and can do almost every kind of burn.

Ashampoo Burning Studio 5
Full commercial application, FREE, worth £20

CDBurnerXP Pro is a worthwhile free addition as is ImgBurn and as BJ suggests Burrrn is great for Audio CDs.

AVS Disc Creator 2.1 also includes a disc image feature. As a result, you can easily create disc images (ISO files) and edit or directly burn your disc images on more CDs or even DVDs as many times as you want, removing or adding files and folders from/to images at any time.

It supports multi-session that enables easy management of multiple backups to one disc, the facility to import a new session, add or delete new files and folders from the existing burning session or edit it irrespectively of what software you used to author this previous writeable discs.

You can use Disc Creator 2.1 to simplify and automate your everyday burning routine. Save your compilations as projects, so that you could record them later from your hard disc drive.

Besides, specifically designed burning engine allows you to burn your data at the highest speed possible. You just need to choose the burn preference that suits your needs using burn speed option.

Another convenient feature is Disc Size meter that indicates free space of the media inserted.
