What would happen when a new Oppo firmware comes out?Â

Potentially it will update although presumably the user has that choice.

They could however be using a trick that was used in the past with DVD players where they assigned the firmware version the highest number that could be stored which meant that it always appeared to be more up to date than the official version.

This isn’t new. The “jailbreak” firmwares have been around for a couple years.

No, once installed you cannot update the player with factory firmware. Although the players do not do forced updates you’d want to turn off network update notifications to avoid an accidental update.

BTW, the posted link in the article is a dead link.

Also worth noting that if you want to avoid Cinavia detection in your Oppo, just feed it an MKV or M2TS file and Cinavia will be ignored.

The article says, “The seller also states that free firmware upgrades will be provided.”

I hope they make one of the 203. The cinavia wasn’t a problem for the 103 but is for the 203.
