Cheap CDs, Backups, and Stupidness

I had a CD which had some C2 errors, so I decided to back it up. It was a Ritek-made Memorex Cool Colors CD-R. Its scan can be seen below.

So I backed it up onto a disc I had: a Memorex Music CD-R. I burned it about two weeks ago, and I scanned it today. Its scan can be seen below.

Go figure.

Anyway, other CMC scans have been worse, like this one:

And others have been great, like this one below.

Could be just me, but I would wonder how reliable your drive is for CD scanning. Not many are these days.

As was pointed out by Arachne, your Philips combo drive is not suitable for media quality scanning at all. :frowning:

Then what is?

Iā€™m looking at a Lite-On (rebranded Optiarc) iHAS424-98.
Is that any good?
