Chaining drives

Does it make any difference was to where burners are chained? At present I have my NEC 3540 as primary master a Lite-On 166S as primary slave and a NEC 2500 as secondary master. I will possibly be adding a Benq 1640 later on which will probably end up as either secondary master or secondary slave.

Is there any advantage in putting drives in a certain order? Or perhaps putting in a firewire case?

The ATAPI spec does not want optical drives as master if there is a HD as slave. Other than that ROMs and RWs seem to do fine anywhere. External cases are only as a last resort as they are slower, problematic and limit burners to slower than 12X unless you have the right chip. I have had no problem with ROM drives in USB or firewire.
