Is there any way to determine the certified speed of blank media if there is no packaging and nothing written on it? I realize that Liteon has a utility that will determine maximum smartburn speed but I would like to know how to determine the manufacturer's certification.
Knowing the certified speed doesn’t necessarily mean that the disc can be written to at even rated speed without errors.
For instance, I have Imation 24x CD-Rs written to at 24x on a Samsung 24x burner. Too many discs have damaged / unreadable sectors and the readers take too long to read data from the Imations.
The maximum speed is the one that your software lets you to write on the CD. Some software have the option maximum and they select the speed depending on the CD.
