Yeah. translation is horrible.

Is this the drive that is supposed to be the 832S that may be possible to upgrade the 812s to?

It’s probably the “832S”. Of course model numbers can change before actual release dates. But it’s fits the specs of LiteOn’s first dual layer burner. :iagree:
Whether or not the 812S will be able to become a 832S, to be sure only time will tell.
DVD writer technology is growing faster and faster. Once the drives started becoming available under $150US it’s bound to happen. Now that more and more people are purchasing DVD writers the curve at which new drives are released will be high and fast. Much like the explosion that took hold of CD burners at about the same price point.
It’s a good time to be insterested in DVD burning

LOL! “DVD Doppelwhopper”

it honk yes its possible.

the old series 401,411,811,851 are the old generations.

the 812 has a brand new hardware and is in the second generation of liteon drives.

OC freak pointed out a while back that it might be possible to upgrade 812s to 832s as they would possibly use the same chipset. But recently i saw on the forum someone point out a japanese review of the 812s where they had opened the drive to show the chips/electronics. The bad news was that the chip on it was identified to be EXACTLY same as the 811s - NOT a New Mediatek one like the expected to be in the 832s. So i think its not going to happen. Only time will tell…

if the 812 has the completly same chipset as the 811 why its not possible to upgrade the 811 to the 812?

with a little bit luck there are other parts of the hardware different and these things make it possible to flash our 812 to the 832.

why make liteon so many different dvd writer drives?
one month before the 832 arrived they produce a very different drive only for dvd-r 8x?that make no sense.

a firmware upgrade for the 811 or the 851 with dvd-r 8x are very cheaper to produce as the 812.

Because the 401/411/811 has a different PUH than the 451/851/812. This is the reason why an x11 can’t be changed to a x51–the hardware is physically incompatible.
