Agreed....Seems many people are looking for the "just good enough" media at the lowest possible price. This could be a recipe for disaster. Another reason I buy A1 media at a premium price.
The funny thing about that article is the guy had cd-r's from the 80's. I remember Ricoh WORM drives (at about $6k US), but the media was contained in cartridges. I also remember Magneto-optical (also cartridge)....but I can't recall CD-R media in the mainstream until the 90's.
Maybe those memory cells have been destroyed by old age or alcohol.....
