CDROM read problem

Hi,

The CDROM drive in my IBM T61p has problem reading CDs. Its a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-8226 drive. Windows XP recognized the drive and its shows as working normally. I tried a ISO9660 CD-R and I can see the top folder but it doesn’t show any contents(the files/directories are not hidden). There is no problem with the hardware since the same drive worked fine on another laptop and the same CD i’m able read in on another system.
I don’t have any special driver since the window xp default driver is supposed to work for this drive. The default driver works on another laptop.

I have tried many CDs but each exhibit different symptoms.

I’m not sure how to go about troubleshooting the problem.
Any help is appreciated.

thanks
Suresh

Welcome to the forum. Maybe unistalling it on the computer your using it on via the device manager then rebooting computer will do the trick?

Hi,

I did try uninstalling and reinstalling the standard XP driver. But it didn’t help

thanks

Try removing/deleting the burner and/or the IDE channels in Device Manager and rebooting. Windows will then reinstall the driver and scan for hardware.
