Nice; I will be reading it closely this evening. Great Job.

#3

Nice!

Funny serial no.

#4

So is this really a “three sheep” burner. How many three sheep burners are there, anyway?

#5

Well, I see in some posts that this drive has 1.04 firmware, but mine has 1.06. After checked Asus site I can’t find any firmware upgrade. Is this the same situation as LG drives, where are the firmwares ?

#6

It passed all the test for a three sheep burner, sorry I don’t have any more information than that.

#7

Just got the Asus DRW-1612BL burner. Delivered with the 1.06 firmware.
Upgrade it to 1.10…tested it with the sheeptest…only passed the 2.51 and
2.90 test. NOT passed the SHEEP3 test
Whats happening ?, is it because my upgrade to 1.10 or could it be different version of the hardware?
How to downgrade it to an older firmware version for testing?

Later this week I will have another system up and running and I can put that drive back in. I will upgrade the firmware and give the sheep test a try again and let you know.

#9

Thanks !, :flower:
I should have tried it BEFORE the upgrade, shame on me :o
hopefully we soon will no who made the hardware, and hopefully we then will get the option do whatever we want, at least upgrade/downgrade

Yes, looks like a joke from Asus.

In the search of "Who is making the DRW-1612BL"
Found this:
http://zive.cz/files/obrazky/2007/01leden/testmechanik/prehled_mechaniky.html,

DVD Burners with the same chipset as ASUS DRW-1612BL
(MediaTek MT1898LE)

LiteOn LH-18A1H, Samsung SH-S182M

#13

So you should add a model from TSST too.

The 182M has no Lightscribe, the 18xL has.

#14

This DVD-burners also use the same chipset as the ASUS DRW_1612BL
According to information from : http://www.hardware.info/en-UK/productdb/bGRk/ZGVnmGZsyQ/ZGJnmWZoyZ1l/viewbyspec/
Just compare all the burners in this link.

HP dvd940i

Lite-On LH-20A1H

Philips SPD6003BD

Anyone know how to make Asus DVD 1612 BL do the bitseeting into DVD ROM as I see someone said that it cannot support bitsetting ? If with new firmware, can it be corrected ?

Also does it suppor alot of media like cheap and unbranded media so not only Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim or Ritek ?
