Cdfreaks presents Philips DVDR16LS review

On my pict. of Nero InfoTool BenQ 160 Firmware B7U9…lbottom DVD features shows;
Region Control II RPCII Changes Left user: 4 CSS with check box X
Region Code 1 Vendor 4 CPRM …unchecked?
On my Liteon Drive and also my Sony drive, they are checked off with an X…
Please explain why not on my BenQ?

@jan70: Thanks for the firmware. Please ask your contacts at Philips to update their official media code list.

Here is what I found in the firmware. 16x write speed is probably still locked, but at least the media code names are accurate.

CPRM (Content Protection for Recordable Media ) is a mechanism that ties a recording to the media on which it is recorded. It is supported by some DVD recorders, but not by many DVD players. Each blank recordable DVD has a unique 64-bit media ID etched in the BCA. When protected content is recorded onto the disc, it can be encrypted with a 56-bit C2 (Cryptomeria) cipher derived from the media ID. During playback, the ID is read from the BCA and used to generate a key to decrypt the contents of the disc. If the contents of the disc are copied to other media, the ID will be absent or wrong and the data will not be decryptable.

Will get to the RPC1 shortly.

Thanks to TDB, I don’t have either drive right now , but downloaded the cross flashes Just In Case.

Nice work on the review Jan70!

The review mentions being able to burn certain media above it’s rated speed (e.g 4x at 8x, and 8x at 12x). How do I get my drive to do this.
What do i have to do to hardware/software???

You have guessed right i am a newbie!!! (using nero 6+).

(Currently using MCC 03 media which i got free with the drive)

Any fool can tell the truth, for it is all he knows. A wise man knows WHEN to share the truth… :smiley:

Brother Vlad

Where can I find Philips for sale in the United States?

I contacted Phillips about a month ago about US avalibility and they told me its only availible for the French market and then the European Market so I went for the HP 640i from Newegg .The Current Lightscribe drives on the market are based on the BenQ 1625 .
