CD-RW Speed Problem

I have a CD burner in an Acer laptop which normally writes at 24x speed with no problems. However, now it will only write at a maximum of 4x. When choosing a higher speed a “Hardware Error” occurs. Do you have any suggestions on how I could get it to write successfully at 24x.

Thanks in advance

Try burning some other media and see if this can burn at a faster burn speed.
Check any installed drivers, Microsofts default drivers are usually recommended.
Try connecting an external USB drive and see if that can burn the media at a faster speed.

I tried a USB drive and that works perfectly. I don’t see how it could be drivers as the problem came without any change by me. If you think it is the drivers, could you please write some step-by-step instructions on how to fix them.

Not to repeat myself but, bump.
