[qanda]This thread is about the Plextor PX-716A. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]My PX-716A suddenly stopped to recognize CD-RW’s.
The disks I wrote before now are not recognized by the drier.
I tried all of them (I have Memorex 4X and Verbatim 16X-24X, Memorx 8X-10X and others) none of them work now.

I know for sure they are good: I can read them on a different drive
Now when I insert any CD-RW the driver make a few attempts to read it and then shows no disk

I cannot say at which moment it happend. May be after I upgrade to the latest firmware 1.11?

All others medias works as usually: CD-R, DVD-R, DVD-RW

Has someone have such problem?

Many thanks!

Alex

A partial failure of the drive can be related to a dirty lens. Drives that are older than 2 years usually have accumulated quite a bit of dust and dirt inside. Look here for a possible remedy:

Thanks for the reply!

But before doing the deep surgery let me notice that the drive is happy with all other media types. I’ve never received errors with CD-R or DVD’s all types. But in the post you refer to says about total failure of the disk:

“no longer recognizes any disc I put in”

Are the CD-RW significantly different in optical sence?

Thanks again!
