CD/DVD ROM drives don't show up in device manager

Hello .

My computer can not show me the CD/DVD ROM . It used to show me some time back but this time around the icon has been removed from my computer. In device manager their is no sector for cd/dvd rom drives. I went to delete the upper and lower registry values but they weren’t there . so i couldn’t run a cd.

Hi arlindd, welcome to the forum!

Have you made any changes to the computer recently? What computer and operating system are you using?

Does the drive tray open and close normally?

Hi thanks for reply!

I don’t think i made any changes recently ! other things actually works fine except this one with cd ( unable to read/burn any cd’s on my computer.) ?

I am using Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Yes the Drive tray open and close normally !

Go into the bios at startup, and see if the drive shows up there. You may want to open the case and re-plug the data and power connectors at the drive and motherboard to ensure it is not a loosened plug. It may just be that the drive has died. Do you have another machine you could install it in to test it? Is this a laptop or desktop?
