CD drive no longer recording

Hi - I’m new. I bought a Lite-on CD/DVD drive, Model SHW-160P65 several months ago. It played CDs and DVDs just fine but I could never get it to record. Windows Media wouldnt recognize it; Real Player showed it was recording a CD or DVD but when I tried playing it, it was blank. Thinking this was the Lite On drive, I changed it back to the CD drive that came with my Dell Dimension 4400. It was working fine when I switched to the Lite-On. When I put it back, I didn’t change anything - the switches were exactly like they had been when I changed to the Lite-on. Now it will play CDs, but won’t record CDs. I tried going through the Dell tech. support, with no luck.

I’m probably in the wrong place all together but I thought I’d give this site a try - hope you can help. If you can, I’d really appreciate it.
THank you!

Well did you check its properties where set to DMA? And is your firmware updated? And what program did you use to burn to the blank media? Did you use the correct firmware?

Its no cd drive but a DVDRW burner.

Install cdburnerxp and test to burn.
