CD burners and scanners

My trusty old Liteon 52327S CD burner has quit recognizing discs. I couldn’t figure out how to get at the laser for cleaning, but did clean it a bit to no avail.

Anyway, after digging through about 20 old burners, I came up with a 52246S that should be in good shape.

I also found a Verbatim CRW 5224A. Does anyone know what this is? I should, I bought it. But I don’t. :o I’m thinking its a Liteon.

Is there any current burner that’s anywhere close to being useful for CDR scanning?

The Verbatim should be an Asus CRW-5224A CD-RW burner clone.

Thanks, I found the same information.

I’m under the impression that some DVD burners can report C1 but not C2. the older LiteOn 52246S should be good for a couple more years, but after it dies I’ll want something else for CDs.
