Being scientific as I am, this should be a sticky for all to view and learn more about the do’s and don’t’s of this technology.

Especially read:

“Care and Handling Guide for the Preservation of CDs and DVDs” produced by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)

www.itl.nist.gov/div895/carefordisc

Great stuff for the scientific minded and boring for others. Enjoy!

Curious to hear about your own experiences.

test123,

Thanks for the links. It was interesting reading and I basically have always followed most of their guidelines. The only thing I question is storing discs horizontally for many years as they recommend not doing so. I have used many CD/DVD wallets that have stored discs horizontally for years (in some cases over 15 years) and my discs have suffered no ill effects. Other than that, I basically think they have good guidelines that I have followed and confirm that my discs play just fine stored via their recommendations.

I am with on the horizontal and wallet issue. I want to see someone prove this is inadequate.
