Can't write DVDs :-(

Hello everyone,

I just bought an LG DVD-writer, namely a HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H20L. When I’m trying to burn a DVD with it (using Nero 6.6 which came with it), it keeps saying “Buffer too large”, and I can’t figure out the source of the problem.

Here is my log:

I know I should turn on the DMA on my drives, but I just can’t - for some reason there is no IDE/ATAPI channel in my device manager, only SCSI/RAID (and I have NO SCSI device), and the Nero DMA Manager can’t detect the DVD-drive either.

I’m just totally clueless. What can I do? (I did a firmware update, so that’s done, still no changes)

Tried DMable yet?

Hi

Yes, enable DMA for all your drives, turn off multisession, and give it another go.

If the problem persists, try with some Verbatim media

An afterthought: uninstalling InCD (through Add/Remove Programs) will probably help as well.

Looks like you’re using SiS IDE drivers. Might be a good idea to uninstall them, and use standard M$ ones?

And do you have a virtual drive there? If so, try uninstalling that (or the software that creates it) too.

Sorry about all the questions/suggestions…I’m spotting new things in your log everytime I look at it

You appear to have SiS IDE drivers installed. Is there an entry under Start -> Programs -> IDEUtils to check/change your DMA settings? In Device Manager you should see “SiS PCI IDE UDMA Controller” listed (don’t confound SiS with SCSI). If not, uninstall the SCSI/RAID entries and reboot (you may have to check your BIOS settings and disable RAID - consult the mainboard manual for this).

Also, you should disable “multisession” burning in Nero and probably reduce the burn speed from 16X to 12X to avoid coasters.

Welcome to CDF!

if the above suggestions don’t work you might try this:
go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers, find the driver files CDRALW2K.SYS and PXHELP20.SYS and rename them, like PXHELP20.SYS -> PXHELP20._SYS. they might be interfering.
that is unless you have some program using them.
do you have some Prassi program or some Roxio program ? DirectCD/DragToDisc/Easy Media Creator/Sonic RecordNow / Sonic DLA ? they might be interfering.
