Can't write dual layer dvd's

vbimport

Hi,
I am Tanveer from Bangladesh. I am using ASUS DRW-24B1ST DVD Drive for some time and it was doing well with normal reading and writing dvd’s. Recently I have tried to write a dual layer dvd for saving some of my collected movies with nero burning rom version 10. It completed layer 1 successfully. while writing layer 2, the software shuts down the writing process and gave an error which I have given below after collecting from the log file.

I have tried twice but found the same problem. After this I have updated my dvd drives firmware. Can anyone please know any thing about this issue? it would be great help to me.

What brand of DL disks are you using? What burn speed?

Hi and welcome to the forum

KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR usually is caused by a low quality disc. Even if seems hard to believe, there is only one brand producing reliable DL media: Verbatim.

All other brands have a quality highly variable from totally ugly to barely decent.

So the only solution is to use only quality DL discs, i.e. Verbatim

Thank You both for replying. Yes I was trying to write with a medium quality dvd available at our local market. Just to ensure that my dvd writer is capable but when the process failed I was a little bit confused. Now I can understand why it happened. Thanks again.

I am a long time Nero user and recently upgraded to Nero 12 Premium. I made and burned a Duel Layer DVD, it went to completion and got the message the burn was successful. The disc will not play on any of my DVD players or even on the computer. I checked the Disc and it says it’s empty. I can see visually that it is burned. I performed a second burn and the same problem. I also checked my burner and it is compliant and will burn DL. I burned the same project to my hard drive and it worked perfectly. Any idea’s why the DVD’s will not play or even load up?

Welcome to the forum tonysan

What brand of disc are you using? Are you backing up a movie or is this a self-made project?

If you can afford to sacrifice another disc, then it might be worth burning that with ImgBurn instead of Nero - I find ImgBurn handles layer breaks and whatnot much better.
