Hi:) I have a problem. When I’m trying to update my firmware (current version is L.01), I get this warning: “The drive is not allowed to be updated”. Can somebody tell me what I’m doing wrong?

Welcome to CDF

Your drive is currently using Philips firmware, hence the error message when trying to flash with BenQ firmware.

What you’ll have to do is crossflash the drive. Use the forum Search function in the BenQ/Philips forum to find out more on how to do this.

K, I found out how to crossflash my drive. Am I wil do everything right:

  1. Downloaded latest BenQ DW1650 firmware from here: http://benq-eu.com/support/downloads/downloads.cfm?product=838&page=downloads&dtype=B

  2. Opened BQFlasher and selected latest firmware .exe file

The last step is to push ‘Flash’, but I’m a little scary to damage my drive. So can I easily push ‘Flash’?

I have used BQFlasher many times before, never had any problems.

I found this thread by Zebadee before going any further, read it carefully, if you haven’t already

As Alan also points out, please make sure your drive is actually the Philips equivalent of the 1650 before trying all this - maybe post the model number?

I don’t know exactly what is my model. I had read a few post and I think it is BenQ DW1650. Nero Info Tool writes that is ATAPI DVD DW 8X16X8X16 (firmware version L.01). And this is what I found on the ROM sticker:

DVDRWDL 16X: 9305 050 41488

DHHS No.: 0222751

BenQ Corporation
Imported by Philips
Lite-On Opto Tech(GZ)Co., LTD

VA155G63455468

CN-0YG768-55081-68Q-42OC

REV A00

What’s all info that I found about my ROM. So I don’t know exactly that model I have…

Hi
Welcome onboard fikusas12. :iagree:
Because this is an oem drive. the f/w should be the best way to identify the model.
I haven’t been able to find this f/w listed under BenQ.Lite-On or Philips.
You could open up the drive & check the chipset (although I am not actually recommending you do this).
See if you can find a f/w link to help identify this drive.

Well, I don’t wanna to open up my drive at all. It seems I won’t update a firmware as I don’t know what is my model…

I still do not know the outcome but it is a start.:iagree:
