  • Test the dvd in other computers
  • Burn another dvd and do a verify this time
  • Was the session closed?
  • Do you have any specs at all on what kind of machine you have?

the dvd burnt fine and nero verifyd it but the dvd won’t work on other computers and i can’t just burn another one because it was my backup before i rebooted i have a lg gsa-4165b dvd burn um amd+64 3200 processor

In the light of the results of Mr B’s first question, you should now consider his very relevant third question: “Was the session closed”… also known as ‘finalising’ the disc.

Hahahaha you edited, I was about to answer your question

Yes, sorry Arachne - my fingers are often faster than my cognitive processes :p…

Ditto, I had to edit too

i can’t remember if the session was closed how could i find out and how would i go about closing it???

Save your log file.

i rebooted the computer so everything went the data was my backup

Download CD-DVD Speed, run it with your backup disc in the drive. Then click the ‘Disc Info’ tab and post the information here (there’s a ‘Copy Text’ button at the bottom of the window).

OK so you are using a +RW disc (which shouldn’t need to be manually closed).

Using the same CD-DVD SPeed program, try the ‘Scan disc’ function to see if all the sectors on the disc can be read. They should all appear green after it’s finished scanning.

nope they are all red which equals bad so wat can i do from here???

Find someone who has a dvd reader that has exceptional error recovery ability, and use clonecd, or alcohol 120 using the error recovery settings. It could take all day, but it SHOULD be able to retrieve you data, unless the dvd is complete toast… Others here should be able to give you specific drives to try, and particular settings. If CDSPEED can see the disk, you should be able to recover.

As you have a DVD+RW did you use Nero Burning Rom or InCD?
Did you write it at once or did you drag&drop files to it till the end of capacity?
If this is the case - did you delete files from the disc? How many?

Sorry for asking all this, but I also had problem with InCd and +RWs. I expected the media to be a large floppy, as promised but that wasn’t true and I ended giving up this kind of usage and doing that using DVD-RAM discs.
It seems that when you delete several files the disc’s TOC is also modified and it comes to a point that fails and you can’t access the data.
Solution - reformat the disc and to play safe if you want to continue with +RW - as it seems to work ok if you just keep adding data - copy the disc’s content to a folder in the HDD if you want to modify the contents.
Otherwise, and if you use it with Nero the advantage of the +RW is that you can delete the data and use the discs again, and if you burn it using “disc at one” the disc is closed automatically.

i burnt the files all at the same time and now i’ve got a new problem ever since i’ve try to extract the file (ive recoverd some of them but now they are tao files i’ve d/l heaps of programmes that say they do sumthing but don’t really and the dumb computer keeps overheating and shuts down and is down for hours im no tech so im stumpped i used nero7 to burn it but i really want that data back it has centermental pics on it) i wish i never touched the thing lol please help any1 clonecd done the best at trying tho
