I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-107D and I use Divx for my Decoder. I have the newest software for the drive and Divx and even downloaded Dr. Divx just to see if it would help. Every player I use says I need a missing plugin but I can’t figure out what the problem is. I shouldn’t need anything else. I’ve tried 3 different movies, Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Mans Chest, The Chronicles of Narnia and American Pie: The Naked Mile. They all say that the plugin is missing. Can anyone help me? Preferably a way that doesn’t have to buy anything. I’m hoping it doesn’t come to that and it’s just something I’m not realizing.
DVDs use the MPEG2 codec- not Divx or any other MPEG4 based codec. Many software DVD players are not free since they need to pay licensing fees to MPEG, but IIRC, ffdshow (free) can decode MPEG2 if you check the appropriate box during installation. Windows Media Player should then be able to use ffdshow to play back DVDs.
Or try the wonderful VLC Tool.
