Can't play backup

Hi,

I find this very puzzling and would be interested in other’s opinions.

I have backup of several movies.

My son has two DVD players where they work fine.
I have three players, on two they don’t work at all.
On one a wintel they do.

To make it even more puzzling.
On two different PCs the DVD reader could not read them.

I haven’t mentioned specifics, as I am just interested in the principle of some stand alone players working, others not, and pcs unable to play them.

Sounds like these DVD you are talking about are DVD+R some standalone DVD Player do not like the +R media, which you will have to set booktype to DVD-Rom.

Yep they are DVDRW+ disks.
Two questions how do I set book type?
Why can’t PCs read these disks?

Thanks for your comments

I 18:04:07 Device: [0:2:0] HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B DL10 (D (ATA)
I 18:04:07 Media Type: DVD+RW (Disc ID: PHILIPS-041-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x)

your drive does not support +rw bitsetting

but there is a trick that you might want to try
http://club.cdfreaks.com/f91/gsa-4167b-rw-bitsetting-168712/

the problem for not playing is most likely due to the +rw and picky players.

some older dvd drives do not support +rw reading

They may not have been Closed/Finalized.
Use nero CD Speed to check this and Troy is right on about the drives.
