Can't get DVDRW to work

[qanda]This thread is about the Acer Aspire 3661WLMi. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hi. I hope someone can help. I have an Acer Aspire 3662wlmi laptop. A while ago the hard drive was replaced. I just recently tried to use the DVD (slimline DVDRW ssm-8515S) but it is not working. I do not have disks for the laptop, so thought it would just need the drivers updating. The drivers are up to date, and the DVD is shown as working properly.

When I try to play a DVD, it opens media player and the following message appears:

Windows media player cannot play the DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

The DVD drive plays CDs fine and my son has used it to play games on.

Any help anyone can give me with this would be most appreciated.

Many thanks, Kath.

When playing any DVD or just a particular one?..
Try VLC instead of WMP…

Have you tried finding updated video drivers for your computer at the Acer site? The closest I could find were those listed for the 3660 series as a whole, from Acer Europe: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_3660.html

Have you tried playing the dvds with another media player, like VLC or Media Player Classic HomeCinema?
