Can't find Driver for my new DVD burner

I just bought a MadDog DVD burner which is actually a Samsung SH-S182D and the driver self-installs fine when it is hooked up to my XP laptop but it does not on my Windows 98 computer. I can’t find the driver on the internet, does anyone know where I can download the driver for this burner? All I can find are firmware updates.
Thanks,
Uncas

Hi and Welcome!

so you need a driver for the USB/IDE converter chip in the enclosure of your drive.

Do you know the chipset of the enclosure?
If not, there is a universal driver for Windows 98SE: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=43096 and http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=43605

You need a localised version for your language btw.

If you are running Windows 98 Gold, then forget it.
Also, you should have an USB 2.0 controller installed, otherwise you won’t have any fun with this unit on the Win9x system.

Try this link out
Try this link out
This won’t help. The unit isn’t recognised at all due to the missing USB mass storage drivers in Windows 98.
USB Mass storage support was introduced with Windows ME and 2000.

Got it, like when I had trouble getting my kingston flash drive to work with a Win 98 system.Had to track down the USB drivers made for it.

This shows on the computer when it is on the driver installation window for the burner: Cypress AT2LP, is this what you mean by the chipset of the enclosure? I will look into that universal driver that you posted. I am on Windows 98 SE.
Thanks for the help everyone.

In case you intend to use more USB mass storage devices, this universal driver might be the better option, but I don’t know how stable it is.

Thanks for the help everyone.
You’re Welcome

I’ve uploaded the USB driver for all Samsung external drive’s to the following site:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ag887ca/n/External_ODD_USB_Drivers_zip

Please unzip the file to a location on your HDD and then redirect the update driver search to the unzipped folder.

(I am aware of one driver for units with NEC IDE/USB chipset that is available on samsungodd.com) I’d really prefer such source over any free hosting website…
