Can't Enter Blank DVDs ,Getting E:/ is not accessible. Incorrect function

Hello there, as you might have guessed my problem from the title i keep getting the “E:/ is not accessible. Incorrect function.” error each time i try to enter a blank DVD,I’m using a TOSHIBA Satellite M45-S169 Laptop with the following DVD drive :“MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-841S”, i have tried every thing from uninstalling the Driver to updating the Firmware and nothing helped, this problem has also been denying me from burning any DVD, i used Nero with imation DVD+R DVDs and yet it tells me burning failed at 2.4x , i would be very grateful if you guys could help out since i got a load of information that i need to burn , Thank You.

Did i happen to post this in the wrong thread or does it take time to respond ?

Are you using any virtual drives or Daemon Tools stuff? Check upper and lower filters?

And, imitation dvd’s are not that good. Try some verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media.

Also, Matshita laptop drives are wayyy too picky, and don’t like much [if any] media. In generally, they are regarded as one of the least desirable brands for laptop drives. Your best bet would be Verbatim media, but even that might not work well. You may have to try to find Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD+R media to be able to use the drive, though it might be easier to try to find a different drive that would work with your laptop if possible [you can either replace the internal drive or get an external USB drive]. This might allow you to use Imation discs, though I still recommend going with Verbatim-branded media or media made by Taiyo Yuden.

Please also note that you are not meant to browse a blank disc in Windows Explorer. Windows XP cannot burn DVDs natively, and browsing a blank, write-once DVD will result in the error you’re getting. This is COMPLETELY separate from your issue burning with Nero.

Thanks for your response guys , the problem is i don’t live in the US and i would really wish we had some Verbatim DVD’s , imation is considered to be the best here , and Albert ,when i placed the blank DVD in my other computer , the DVD Driver icon turns to CD Driver ,it also shows 0 bytes free & 0 bytes full which i believe means it’s good to go , this is not the case in the Laptop, i only want to know why is this error showing, is there a solution for it ?
… i only want to know why is this error showing, is there a solution for it ?
No. Some computers will show the 0 bytes used, 0 bytes free; others return that error. It all depends on that particular system, and is a “feature” of XP. Just don’t try to browse a blank DVD in Explorer. There’s nothing wrong.

Your best bet might be to get an external USB drive, in this case.

Alright then , since it can’t be fixed , how about we turn this into a “Unable to Burn” problem ?
Alright then , since it can’t be fixed , how about we turn this into a “Unable to Burn” problem ?
Please try another of those discs with Nero, and when it fails it should give you the option to save an error log - please post that log here so we can see why and where the burn is failing.

Since you mention 2.4x, I would guess that those Imation discs are 16x, and your Matshita drive has no firmware support for them…but post the log anyway.

Also, Albert’s remark about Matshita drives being extremely picky, is spot on from what I’ve read here. I also agree with his recommendation of an external drive, if you want trouble-free burning (and better media, of course).

Indeed they are picky and could stop functioning after a while, i never realized that until i bought it, anyway i already saved the error log so here it is :

And Arachne I would like to note that the drive was burning perfectly about a year ago with the same Imation discs.

Hi
Welcome on board ZeroCast. :iagree:
You might like to edit/remove your Nero serial # from your post.

Edit: I see this is now done.

“Those same Imation discs” could have been made by a different manufacturer, as Imation don’t actually make discs, but brand discs from different manufacturers

All those (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)'s in the log would indeed indicate that your drive doesn’t like those particular Imation discs (made by Moser Baer India Limited).

BTW, I removed your Nero serial number from the log, to prevent it getting into the wrong hands and your copy being blacklisted

Hi Zero just a couple things i noticed.

Your RAM is almost all used up so i would get rid of all the apps not needed and don’t breathe while burning. 382mb of RAM is not much to begin with.

Also try burning those at 8x.

It says KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR which usually means to use better blanks but i guess in your case that’s the best you can find there…

I’m going to be totally honest with you guys, that was not a legit serial number,it’s from a torrent site :o but i truly admire your concern and that only proves your honesty and i thank you for that, as for that matter in hand, i will try other brands available here, we do have TDK and Sony that i forgot to mention (forgive me!), and Bob , it appears that i can change the Frame Buffer of the Video Card which is being used as shared memory,it should give me some more RAM.
