Can't Burn Lightscribe DVD+R. HELP!

I have tried in vein to burn a video (dvd format) onto a new set of Memorex Lightscribe DVD+R media. I have tried 4 DIFFERENT drives, one of the a BENQ Lightsribe (the LS feature works fine), and have tried a direct disk copy using NERO and SONIC Record Now.

I have also tried just dragging data onto the disk via Windows XP on two separate units. I have downloaded updates, drivers and firmware (oh, my).

I also tried burning straight from my Pinnacle Studion video editor. Nothing works.

PLEASE HELP BEFORE I KILL AGAIN!!!

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

OK, so you tried 4 different drives, that rules out a physical drive problem.

Let me get this straight - it’s burning data (your video file) onto the disc, not burning a LightScribe label that’s the problem?

You won’t be able to do it via drag’n’ drop in XP Explorer, because XP doesn’t support DVD burning natively (Vista does, though).

Can you try another burn with Nero, and if it fails, Nero will prompt you to save an error log - post this (removing your serial number from it first) please - it will help us to see what’s going wrong during the burn.

The other way around. No data, but it WILL burn the lightscribe.

When I use Nero it does not even get to burning. It says that my compilation wont burn to the DVD+R. I am copying from a -R to a +R, but I didn’t think that made a difference.

I have not tried just burning a few things to the DVD+R via nero, but I will.

??

What kinda model burner and firmware do you have? And what speed are you burning at and what other burner program do you have installed ie like do you have Incd install and Sonic install on the same computer? Sometimes burner program conflicts with each other functions and operations?? What version of the softare of Nero and Sonic do you have? And can you tell more of what you mean by DVD format are you referring to commercial DVD press like what DVD movies and how big is the file and have you test to see if the file itself is working properly?

No go on just burning data either. grrrrrrrrr!!

All four of the burners I have work well with every other medium: Cd-R, CD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RW and DVD-R, just not these &^JF&$ Memorex DVD+R LS

OK, thanks for the log

DMA is showing as “off” in the log for your hard drive, this could be the root of the problem.

Take a look at the link in my sig (“How to check/enable DMA”), and follow the instructions for your OS.

Or, there is a link to a “resetdma.vbs” file in the first post - I suggest downloading and running that file. If it finds a drive with DMA disabled, it will reset it for you.

Edit: Plus, if it’s only the Memorex media that fails, then I’d suggest buying some Verbatim or HP LS discs (in that order)

is the fact that I am using XP Pro a factor? It has been one big bug since I installed it.

Shouldn’t be. I use XP Pro myself without a hitch.

I would definitely get that DMA sorted out, and perhaps use better media - the mediacode for those Memorex discs (shown in the log) is CMC MAG M01 - that mediacode has been known to be quite a problematic one, and might explain why -Rs work and those +Rs don’t.

OK, I will try using some other. Is there such thing as a lightscribe DVD-R?

Also my devices seemed to be set to DMA if availble, but I reset them and restarted.

We’ll see

Sure, you can get HP LS DVD-Rs or Verbatim ones

OK, nice one - if the DMA reset doesn’t help, it’s a media thing

well, I got some HP’s and they STILL don’t work. I used another PC with two different programs. I think it basically says I am trying to copy from a DVD-R to a DVD+R and it is the incorrect media.

End of the rope here. These drive are SUPPOSED to read and write to +R!

Yes, but only reliable media they do support.

Isn’t there a size difference between -R and +R? I forget which has more space, maybe another member can comment, but perhaps that has something to do with it, since all those drives do indeed support +R.

Last resort would be to try some trusted media like Verbatim, which is why when I listed the HP and Verb discs I said “in that order” - meaning try Verbs first, then HP, as that would have been my personal preference

Yes, DVD+R holds usually 4482mb, DVD-R holds 4489mb (some up to 4496mb).
