Can't burn DVD's

Sorry if this has been mentioned before. I have found similar threads and tried to solve it but it still won’t work.

I have an AJP laptop with a Sony dw-d56a DVD-RW installed. Up until recently I have been able to burn CDs and DVDs no problem. It has suddenly stopped burning DVDs. It gets 5% then stops and says there has been an error.

I will post the log if it helps. I am still using the same disks I have been using all along, as I bought a shed-load, so it’s not the disks.

I’m using Nero to burn and haven’t changed anything.

I have just flashed the latest firmware from the link I found on this forum but still the same.

Any ideas much appreciated. Here’s the erro log:

@ rickyslim,

Welcome to the Forum.

It appears your problem is caused by the use of poor quality blank DVD+R media.

It has been reported by other Forum members that the DVD+R blank media (Plasmon1C01) you are using is problematic cheap poor quality media. Below is just one Forum posting on Plasmon1C01 DVD+R media.

Suggest visiting the CD Freaks Blank Media Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33) for information on good proven reliable DVD Media.

Also for reference information. If you are unaware Sony doesn’t actually manufacture DVD Burners. Your Sony DVD RW DW-D56A is actually a rebadged LiteOn SOSW-852S. Below is a Forum link concerning firmware for your Sony DVD RW DW-D56A/LiteOn SOSW-852S.

Hi, juste a few things:

  1. try upgrading to latest version of Nero : 6.6.0.16, though we’ll both agree it won’t solve the problem :frowning:

  2. does it burn CDs???

  3. have you tried using simulation (requires DVD-R, AFAIR)

EDIT: hmm, seems we almost cross-posted, bjkg, your stuff seems a bit more useful

Don’t post serials!

Cheap media for this picky drive.

Thanks for the replies.

I had also tried Datawrite disks as they bwork OK on my desktop PC.

Any suggesions of disks to try then?

Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Plextor, Maxell…

I had a similar problem on my DRU-D56A. Nero reported that it didn’t support the type (DVD+R) of DVD anymore (which it did the day before) and all my other DVD copy software stoped working as well. The software (DVD Clone II, DVD Shrink, ETC…) would just sit there and write just enough to disc to turn it into a coaster (Nero wouldn’t even attempt to write). I removed the Upper and Lower filters and lo’ and behold all was back to normal again. Just go to the link about removing filters above for a walk through or search for article number 314060 in the Microsoft KB. I can’t remember what I had installed or deleted but it wasn’t EZ CD Creator or the like. Maybe DVD43 had something to do with it as I had recently installed it. Let us know if this helps and good luck. -BIG
