I just started running into this problem recently, but I can only burn dvd's at no more than 1.7x. My programs which burn dvd's are all reading the drive as a cd drive with the options leading all the way up to 52x like with what you can burn a cd at. But no matter the rate selected it burns at max 1.7x and the device buffer now jumps like crazy from 98% to 2% although it never buffer underruns. It used to stay constant at 98%. When I insert a dvd the drive is read as a cd drive but its a dvd drive. I have a gateway 832gm. And the factory burner used to work great but now I cant affect the speed to burn dvd's its a TSSTCorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B. I uninstalled the drive and reinstalled nothing happened. I just cant seem to get the drive to keep a constant device buffer and burn at at least 4X. It burns at 1.7 max with no driver updates or rollbacks and its now recognized as a cd burner with cd burner speeds and no dvd speeds 1,2,4,6,8,12. I cant seem to figure it out I did a system restore but that didnt help either. Any help would be nice. thx a mil.
