Cant burn DL Media with my DW1640 (Plex 740A)

[qanda]This thread is about the BenQ DW1640. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hi, Im running my DW1640 with the original Plextor 740A 1.02 firmware, and I just cant burn ANY Dual Layer DVD media. Nero always give me a closing session error (something like that) and does not finish writing the disk. The burning process go until 99.9% and while closing the last layer, Nero aborts with a error. I tried two brands of media and It just cant finish writing both of them (with the same error, btw).

So, does anyone knows whats going on? Im planning to crossflash my driver to the BenQ firmware. Is this going to help?

#2

Which two brands of media did you try?

#3

Matrix and Roma (LOL), both with the same ID: RICOHJPN D00.

#4

You may like to try some Verbatim and see how that goes.

#5

Verbatims are all i will use for DL burning.

And maybe give Imgburn a shot.

#6

Verbatim and Tayo here in Brazil are just legends. The last time I saw a verbatim DVD Cake for selling here was never. But anyway im almost sure the problem is the media, since these brands are almost junk, but the IMGBurn idea is very good. Will check when I arrive home

#7

Hope it works out for you.

Let us know if you have any other issues!
So, does anyone knows whats going on? Im planning to crossflash my driver to the BenQ firmware. Is this going to help?
1. You’re using poor quality media. Even worse, if the media wasn’t made in Taiwan, it’s fake.

 2. Crossflashing to a DW1640 with BSRB will definitely help.

Worked Like a dream. Strangly, in the end of the burning, IMGBurn give me the “closing session” message and stays there for like 4 minutes, and then the DVDs gets finalized. Its strange, but its working now. Thank you

#10

Sorry for Double posting but this problem raised again, and now with single Layer Media…

Im using Sony media, the best quality out there but now Nero started giving the “cant finalize disc at once session” error again, even with single layer media, and now this problem is REALLY pissing me off. Any sugestion in fixing that?

Post a log?

Sure, sorry for that

Strangly, this never EVER happen if you try to burn a non-compilation file (For example: All DVDs burn fine if you drop the files and ask nero to burn instead of opening a .NRI or a .BIN / .ISO file)

Cutting it pretty close.

Try burning at half the rated speed of the disc, IE, 16X burn @8X. Give ImgBurn a shot & last question, do these play at all?

IMGBurn always give me perfect burns even at 16x. about the failed discs from nero, if you put them into the drive nero says its empty and you cant burn them but you can extract all the files just fine using a program like ISOBuster, since the Nero error happens only after burning the entire disc.

I could have been using IMGBurn but I really need a way to save compilations

#15

You may be able to close your discs manually in either ImgBurn or Nero so that they can be used as normal.
I could have been using IMGBurn but I really need a way to save compilations
You can either save an image or save whatever you’re building as a project file to resume use later.

Really? How? If I try to burn the disc with just a single file to do this, Nero does not allow me. Didnt try with IMGBurn yet.

And didnt know IMGBurn could save project files! Thanks for the tip
