Can't burn anything, it fails each time with Nero 8

Hello, I have Nero 8 and I can not burn anything, I turned burning rights on for everyone, but still no luck. It did this with Nero 7 as well, I was hoping that upgrading would fix things, but no such luck.

When burning an image to a disk, it gets about 5-10 seconds into burning and then fails, no matter what the speed. Maybe someone here can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it, as lately I have been saving all these images on an external hard drive, and would much rather have them on disk to free up some space.

Here is the log:

There has got to be somebody that can help me out, maybe reloading windows will fix this problem? I only say that because I am gonna do a clean install of vista and will be installing that sometime next week.

I have an IDE burner, and that is the only IDE drive that I own, everything else on the computer is SATA. I wonder if there is something turned off on the motherboard bios that is not letting the IDE drive work properly. It reads fine though, just wont burn.

Well buddy sounds like u have ur self a problem. I 2 run vista but i run all SATA no IDE. ! Depending on what version on vista u r running u can boot up into bios and check ur drive. . . but if the drive reads just fine sounds like u have a bad burner. How old is ur burner? Have u ever burned with the burner before? Like in another computer or did u buy the burner and installed it ur self?

Use better media like Verbatim…

Well I am still using XP, and it was working fine before, I can’t think of anything that might have changed, unless a BIOS update messed it up, but I cant even remember the last time I updated anything. As far as I can remember it just stopped working one day.

I guess I could just buy a SATA burner and try that, but I would rather keep this one and get it working. Maybe there are some weird settings in the BIOS?

Ok, problem solved.

The actual cd burner was broken, it would read, but not write. I did nothing but changed burners and now all is well. Looks like Sony’s DVD burners are not as good as their CD burners back in the day. I had a cd burner for about 4 years, maybe longer, and I only had the DVD burner for about a year and it burned out. Well another good thing is I have eliminated IDE from my computer now, so it looks better at least.
