Canon print heads interchangable?

Hi,

Anyone know if the print head on my ip4000 is interchangable with my ip4500? The 4000 just died (power supply) so i have the other working parts.

I just bought the ip4500 NIB with the original carts. The carts hold much less ink than the bci-6 and 3bk carts from my ip4000. Is this because these are the smaller “intro” carts that come with new printers, or do the cli-8’s and the pg-5’s just hold less?

  • would like to bypass the chips.

Thanks

PS: thanks CDan for the craigslist idea. Got the 4500 for a song.

Head no, but is a chance for power suply.

Very different heads.

But the IP4500 has nearly identical volume tanks as the IP4000, same ink too. The IP4600 has the smaller and newer tanks. The only real difference between the 4000 and 4500 is the addition of chips on the tanks.

I’ll add that the IP4500 is a superior printer to the 4000. Faster by far on photos and discs with improved image resolution. I would not cannibalize a 4500 to fix a 4000, I’d use the 4500. (I have 3 of them here)

Compatible tanks are available, with or without chips, for the 4500. If you can get IP4500s for a song, buy more of them.
