Hello, I am trying to take an interview off a dvd and can't even get the ripping programs to read it. The dvd will play fine in normal dvd players but it goes nuts in both my PC and my laptop. This disc is a Korean release of a Shaw Brothers movie in the Hong Kong Classic Collection.
I have to take a specific Title off the disc as it is a rare interview that is only on this release of this disc and nowhere else, otherwise I would have just given up and found it on a less well protected disc.
I have Dvd Fab Platinum 5, DVD Decrypter and Alcohol 120% (for trying to make an image of the dvd and then 'ripping' the image). I can make backups of any other dvd in my collection if I wanted to but this one just will not co-operate.
Dvd Fab Platinum 5 = dvd drive makes a chugging and grinding noise as the "Open DVD source" bar goes along very slowly. After about 5-10 minutes it shows the layout of the dvd but if you try to then rip even a single chapter or special feature it starts grinding again and then eventually spits out the dvd and says it's unable to copy the dvd due to a read error.
DVD Decrypter = gets to "Parsing IFO files" and then says there is an I/O error and will not go any further.
Alcohol 120% = if you try to make an image of the disc, it will get to 66% and then start saying there are bad sectors. I turned the retry on bad sector to 0 but every single byte comes up as bad so even though I left the computer reading the disc for 10 hours it didn't get past 66% and just had a massive list of bad sectors.
I've tried 3 pcs, with multiple dvd drives (Samsung, NEC, LG, Hitachi) and two copies of the dvd from different sources, both discs are brand new and have no scratches.
I am at a loss at how to copy this disc, does anyone have any suggestions or know what copy protection it is I'm up against? DVD Fab Platinum 5 can defeat even the newest Sony protection but can't do this disc from 2005!
