I have a PX-712A DVD RW drive and for the past few days, my DVD drive hasnt been able to read from DVDs. The DVDs I use are original movie DVDs which worked fine with it but suddenly it is unable to identify if a DVD is in it. It shows the label as "DVD-RW Drive(G:)" instead of the label on the DVD and when I try to double click, I get the error "G:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."
I checked the Plextor Faq posted here and saw the blink code.
With a DVD inside it, the Drive blinks with 2 Amber lights which the website says stands for Auto adjustment failed
Cannot read a stamped disc or initialize a CD-R/RW disc because the drive cannot properly configure the focus and track adjustment settings.
The solution given to that is
Please follow all steps outlined below:
Re-boot your computer. Check again.
Make sure the disc is not upside down or scratched
Try a "known good" disc that can be read in another drive or could be read previously in this drive
If this is a recordable or rewritable disc, try another one from a different manufacturer
I have around 70-80 DVDs all in good condition and it is able to read none of them. While it can still read CDs without any problem.
My problem is that I bought the drive from US for use in India so even if I do RMA, I will have to pay a lot of postage for sending the drive to US and to get it back from Plextor.
Has anybody else experienced this and knows how to deal with it.
