@ gibraltar
Welcome:). If your drive won’t read or write any discs at all, you can try it in another system to see if you get the same type of failures, but I think your drive is most likely at fault and you should return it for a new one. If the new one also has the same problem, then post back and we can explore ohter options.

Hello
thanks for your reply
this is the second burner ,had it back to the computer store where purchased ,and inserted.
they couldnt find the problem…i done a bit more exploring myself and went and done a nero speed check etc and noticed windows ASPI file missing… downloaded the Aspi file and now all is working well. (proud of myself being a newbee  ).
so maybe this might help some other readers with similar problems.
again ,thanks for your reply.bye the way …great site.

Regards
Alan

i am having a simliar problem…my drive is reading and burning cd but is not recognizing dvd’s, wen i got it this happen but i upgraded the firmware and it worked but now it’s gone back like b4 even with new firmware…i tried alot of stuff any ideas?
it’s ldw 451s dvdrw on secondary master, and liteon sohr cdrw as slave

#7

hi
have you checked the aspi dll files ?..it worked for me …so far.are you running nero burning program?

#8

yes i am usin nero, and the .dll files all seem to be in place

#9

Hi gibraltar,

I did a file search on XP and found only the Nero aspi .dll…Where do you look for the windows XP aspi file and were can i download it?

And what file do i drop it in? Sorry i have no idea how to do this.

#10

hi
this is what i did…“go to google” type frcAspi117.zip… on that page download and save to temp folder/empty folder then follow the instructions below:

Extract all files inside frcASPI17.zip to an empty folder.
(choose to “Use Folder names” options in WinZip when extracting files)

Double click on the file called Killaspi.bat after files are extracted
to un-install the 4.71 drivers you installed.
(dont restart windows)
Then double click on the file called Instaspi.bat to install ASPI 4.60

Restart Windows.
good luck.

ErMasta

it also might be crap disks ur using …i have a pioneer DVD burner on one machine and its brilliant (for me) burns just about anything but the liteon 1693s on the other computer is very fussy/ touchy. MHO.
this is the site where i found the Force Aspi .

http://www.chickensys.com/translator/download.html

you want the one in the middle…where it says ForceASPI…click on it and it should take you to the file.
i hope it fixes your problem.good luck.

#12

dude i did the thing and it did not work, i i rebooted it read a dvd for 2 seconds then system crash and the problem persisted but thanks anyway

#13
