Hi Guys,

Wonder if someone can help me.

DVD-RW drive Philips DVD8801 + Memorex DVD-R 16x + Nero 7 --> result data disc that is unreadable in DVD8801 and my other Dvd drive Philips DROM6216- Windows says no disc in the drive, Nero Info Tool says disc not finalised ( which is not true disc was created with “No multisession” option in Nero ).

DVD-RW drive Philips DVD8801 + Memorex DVD-R 16x + DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 --> burning any iso compilation - burns without a problem can read it in DVD8801 and my other Dvd drive Philips DROM6216

Also tried to burn data disc with Sonic RecordNow - the same problem.

No idea what is going on - Burned some data disc with Memorex DVD-R 16x before - didn’t have any problems ( also can burn iso images on them without probs ).
Any suggestions ?

Welcome to cdfreaks Rabarbar.

Next time you try with Nero 7, please post the log so we can take a look.

In the meantime, you can use DVD Decrypter to burn your data, or even better: ImgBurn.

WHat version of Nero are you using?

The earlier V7 versions had many problems as I recall, some associated with burning.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies ( specially Zevia for pointing me in the right direction )
I think I found the problem in the log file :

16:36:25 #28 SPTI -1128 File SCSIPassThrough.cpp, Line 290
F: CdRom1: SCSIStatus(x02) WinError(0) NeroError(-1128)
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
Sense Code: 0x11
Sense Qual: 0x00
CDB Data: 0x28 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00
Sense Area: 0x70 00 03 00 00 00 00 12 00 00 00 00 11
Buffer x04ec1c00: Len x8000

And also

Media Specific [16…63]:
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 …
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 …
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 …

I looked for KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR and Media Specific field empty and I found some info here :
The burning with Nero failed - some clues to why

Now when I burn sometimes I burns ok and sometimes Nero tells me that the disc I just burned is empty, Nero Info tool says that it is not finalized.

Looks like this is a problem with my Memorex DVD-R 16x ( RITEKF1 ) media. I know this is a new product so probably my firmware is not compatibile with it.
I remember reading somewhere that Philips DVD8801 = BENQ 1650 and I can flash it with BCIC.
Is that true ? And how do I do it ? Tried to run BQFlasher but it doesn’t recognize the drive.
Detailed info :

Name : Philips DVD8801
Firmware : NW02
Buffer Size : 2 Mb
Serial Number : VA121S62906480
Nero version : 7.0.5.4

I found this thread useful when I xflashed my 1660P1 to the Benq 1650.

Personally I’d lose the Memorex discs but you may have too many to dump.

Verbatim 16X +Rs are very good in these burners.

Well just bought 50 Memorex discs :frowning: I got DVD-R cause my PS2 doesn’t like DVD+R but maybe will try again.
So am I correct in thinking that Philips DVD8801 = Benq 1650 ?
BQFlasher doesn’t recognize my drive ( even with switches /showAllDrives - and /disableDriveChecking ) - so I need to use WinDWFlash.
On the page with cvt files I didn’t find anything that says Philips DVD8801 or Benq 1650 - is it safe to use Benq 1640 ( BSOB CVT ) ?
It says in the description that this util will try to flash a drive regardless of what drive I have - does that mean that I can basically trash my Dvd if I will try to flash a drive with wrong firmware ?
How do I save my current firmware from the drive to a file ?

Hi,

Don’t know. I didn’t find that on Philips website.

BQFlasher doesn’t recognize my drive
Maybe it helps, to copy Frogaspi.dll into bqflasher’s directory (after renaming to wnaspi32.dll). But if BQflasher does not detect your drive, then there is something wrong. Either your system is messed up in some way, or your drive is something else, maybe a Liteon rebadge.

No. Unless you need a new doorstop.

Yes.

Actually, there is no way to extract the firmware from your drive - if it is a real Philips/Benq.
You may try The Flash Utility from the Liteon section. If this works, then you know, your drive is a Liteon.

With Benq’s Qsuite are you able to view the Solidburn settings etc. If you can it’s a Benq I’d say.

#9

I have a winaspi.dll in the folder with Bqflasher folder.
Both Qsuite and Nero Info Tool detect that the drive has Solid Burn capabilities.
Just tried Liteon Flash and Eeprom Utility - both don’t recognize this drive as Liteon drive.

Anybody ?
